10,000 years of unique Northumberland heritage are on display in this museum housed inside a refurbished church.
In the historic Castle Quarter of Alnwick, Bailiffgate’s unique church setting provides a dramatic backdrop to its extensive collection as there’s much to marvel at inside, such as original stained-glass windows and decorative interiors. Here you can explore the rich history of the market town, Alnwick and surrounding areas, particularly significant as a central point during years of conflict between Scotland and England.
Two floors are dedicated to a permanent collection of artefacts, documents, photographs and audio-visual content celebrating local history, while the third floor is used as an exhibition and events space, with a rolling programme of exhibitions taking place year-round. The museum also celebrates the abundance of arts and crafts created locally.
