Video: Botticelli Reimagined
Art critic Alastair Sooke takes a look at the enduring impact of Sandro Botticelli at the V&A’s new exhibition.
Botticelli Reimagined tracks the astounding impact the early-Renaissance painter had on generations of artists, designers and photographers, from Dante Gabriel Rossetti and William Morris to David LaChapelle and Elsa Schiaparelli.
Botticelli had largely been forgotten for 300 years by the time the Pre-Raphaelites engendered a revival of the artist’s work and the Victorian ‘cult of Botticelli’ swiftly led to 'Botticelli the brand' being utilised by fashion designers and commercial brands in the late 20th century.
Botticelli Reimagined is at the V&A until 3 July, 50% off with a National Art Pass.
