ArtFunded works from Pallant House head to London Art Fair
A selection of works from Pallant House Gallery in Chichester, including several acquired with Art Fund support, will go on display as part of a unique exhibition at this year's London Art Fair.
Now in its 27th year, London Art Fair has named Pallant House Gallery as its museum partner for 2015, following last year's inaugural partnership with the Hepworth Wakefield.
The Figure in Modern British Art, an exhibition curated by Pallant House's artistic director Simon Martin, will bring together paintings and drawings by some of Britain's leading 20th-century painters, including Walter Sickert and Frank Auerbach. It will be housed in a specially designed pavilion near the entrance to the main fair.
One of the highlights will be Lucian Freud's Self-Portrait with Hyacinth in Pot, acquired by Pallant House Gallery through the Art Fund as part of the Wilson Gift in 2006. The figurative works will be joined by highlights from the gallery's collection of 1960s British Pop Art, including key works by Richard Hamilton and Peter Blake, also acquired with Art Fund support.
The fair, which is the largest in the UK specialising in modern and contemporary British art, will be open 21–25 January 2015. Art Fund members can save 50% on advance day tickets to the fair with a National Art Pass if they book before 31 December 2014.
