This exhibition of new and recent work by Lungiswa Gqunta (b.1990, lives and works in Cape Town) will be the artist’s largest to date.
Through her sculpture and video, Gqunta unveils the legacies of colonialism in South Africa. Sleep in Witness includes two room-filling installations made especially for the exhibition, using materials drawn from South Africa’s histories and present, alongside the video Gathering 2019.
Landscape, memory, water and the body are linked throughout Gqunta’s work as connections are made between the landscape, place, the artist’s community and her ancestors.
A programme of free family activities and research events accompanies the exhibition.
