Witness the moments that inspired great art through a series of striking images of artists in their creative environments.
Featuring 20 celebrated photographers from the Magnum agency – a collective of photographers founded in 1947 in the aftermath of the Second World War – this exhibition unites modern and contemporary image makers with some of the greatest artists of the 20th and 21st centuries. From contemporary photographers such as Martin Parr and Abbas to modern photographers such as Inge Morath, the images on display demonstrate the breadth of talent in the Magnum agency.
Over 80 portraits of artists in their own creative spaces are on display, ranging from the modest ateliers of the Parisian avant-garde to the New York lofts of the American pop artists. Each image captures the special moments where ideas were born, giving way to some of the greatest art of recent centuries. Artists captured include modern masters such as Pablo Picasso, contemporary installation artist Yayoi Kusama, pop artist extraordinaire Andy Warhol and contemporary sculptor and activist Ai Weiwei.
