Explore how design helped the world’s most popular sport soar to dizzying heights, and how football in turn inspired innovation in design.

Dive into the story behind ‘the beautiful game’ and explore how dedicated designers have helped football continue to grow on a global scale, creating everything from boots, balls and football kits to expansive stadiums to enhance the game.

The exhibition features over 500 objects, films and interviews exploring design in relation to sporting performance, kit development and stadium design, plus the legacies of some of the industry’s beloved clubs and players, from Maradonna to George Best.

Highlights on display include a women’s football kit from 1895, the ball from the 1930 World Cup final, the world’s first ever sports whistle dating back to 1886 and an immersive film installation following the French footballer Zidane. Listen to rare insights from the people who have shaped football today, explore innovative clothing and learn how the design of badges, posters and more can mould a club’s identity.

Whether you’re a football fanatic or a sporting sceptic, there’s something for everyone to explore behind the scenes of the beautiful game.
