Explore a selection of new works by artist Paul Coldwell, exhibited alongside the Estorick’s colletion of etchings and drawings by painter and printmaker Giorgio Morandi.
Coldwell’s prints, sculptures and poems were created in London under lockdown conditions between 2020 and 2021. He explores parallels between his own experiences during that period and the self-imposed ‘restrictions’ of Morandi’s life in Bologna, where the artist lived and worked for his entire career.
“What for others might be seen as limitations, for Morandi became creative opportunities. His work speaks of the capacity of the imagination to escape from confinement, something that I hope might be found in my work as well.” Paul Coldwell.
