Lisa Brice challenges traditional depictions of the female nude through her vivid paintings.
Challenging the male gaze that has dominated Western art for centuries, Lisa Brice separates her subjects from their features and defining qualities, presenting a complicated perspective of the female nude.
Her work attempts to break down the hierarchy of artist and model, particularly how this relationship has been managed between male artists and their female models throughout history. As an artist she is known for her bold, evocative painting and use of interesting techniques such as heavily layered brushstrokes. The exhibition features a number of paintings that capture her sitters in action, celebrating the present moment of the female nude.
Please note: your ticket to Lisa Brice also includes entry to Charleston’s Nina Hamnett exhibition.
