Explore a new side to the historic Strawberry Hill House.
To celebrate European Jewish Days of Culture, Strawberry Hill House are exploring their Jewish heritage through the lives of two former owners: Frances Waldegrave (1821-1879) and Hubert Stern (1851-1919). The Countess, Frances Waldegrave was famously the daughter of a well-known opera singer, and the Baron Hubert Stern a notable member of the European Jewish dynasty of bankers.
Through a curated collection of images and objects the online exhibition explores a range of themes from family, religion and philanthropy to anti-Semitism, all of which were part of the lives of these two former owners of Strawberry Hill House.
Both owners made a lasting impact on how the house was perceived and appreciated during their time, bringing it back to the centre of social life – this is the opportunity to discover their stories and the legacy they left behind.
