This exhibition has now closed, find out what else is going on at National Maritime Museum Cornwall

Legends, folklore and modern-day science combine to explore centuries-old myths, legends and chance sightings that led to tales of impossible sea creatures.

Giant sharks the size of skyscrapers, Kraken’s with tentacles two miles long – this exhibition dives beneath the surface of the monsters under water, factual and fictitious, that today are fuelled by conspiracy theories and fake news.

Climb aboard HMS Challenger and experience what life would be like as an explorer on a floating laboratory and see how today’s scientists navigate unchartered waters to learn more about the real monsters of the deep – more fantastical than their legends.
