An all-new display of objects from Welbeck’s historic Portland Collection of fine and decorative art.
Men, Women and Things is taken from the title of the 6th Duke of Portland's memoirs and is an apt description of the current displays that include rare works and masterpieces from a collection that has been assembled over 400 years by a succession of the Dukes of Portland and their families.
The display includes a wide variety of works from the internationally significant collection, from grand full-length portraits to tiny miniatures, furniture to jewellery, books to ceramics.
The new display features astonishing portraits of three women who transcended their time and class – including history’s earliest sci-fi writer – Margaret Lucas.
