This exhibition has now closed, find out what else is going on at Stanley Spencer Gallery

Discover the intimate portraits of English painter Stanley Spencer in the village he loved.

The exhibition includes paintings and drawings, mostly of people with whom Spencer had a personal connection – friends and family from the area – but also later portraits of paying clients.

Highlights include Roy, a pen-and-ink drawing of a five-year-old brother of a friend in church, which Spencer completed when he was only 16 himself.
