This exhibition has now closed, find out what else is going on at The Bowes Museum

Curated by Quentin Blake, this exhibition includes a series of never-seen-before artwork that he created to illustrate the classic Roald Dahl tale.

Blake and Dahl's creative partnership lasted over 20 years, their collaborative might bringing to life the worlds of a madcap chocolate-maker, a child-munching crocodile and – as seen in this exhibition – a benevolent 24-foot-tall giant with superhuman hearing abilities.

As well as original artwork that readers will remember from the book, the display features a series of illustrations that were included in initial designs but not used in the final version. Blake's insightful curation means the show also sheds light on the close relationship between illustrator and author.
