Hala Kaiksow, Shepherd’s Coat and Momohiki Jumpsuit from the Wandress Collection, 2015

Open to nominees of any background, the Jameel Prize is awarded every two years. Celebrating and raising awareness of the thriving interaction between contemporary practice and Islamic tradition, it also contributes to the debate surrounding Islamic culture in the world today.

This year, the finalists are drawn from countries as diverse as Bangladesh, Iraq, France and the USA, and the work ranges from multi-media installation and painting to architecture and fashion design, all inspired by an informed knowledge of Islamic traditional art.

The exhibition is held within the V&A which also houses one of the world's great collections of Islamic art from the Middle East, started in the 1850s.
