This exhibition offers a unique opportunity to see 12 exquisite and mysterious standing cups from the 16th century reunited and in their original state.
In 1826, the Aldobrandini Tazze – a collection of elaborate table ornaments celebrating 12 notorious rulers of ancient Rome – appeared, seemingly out of nowhere, in a London dealer’s shop.
Nearly two centuries later, it still isn't known for certain who made them or why, although the craftsmanship alone supports research suggesting a royal commission.
In the centuries since their creation, they have been taken apart, incorrectly reassembled and dispersed across the globe.
This is the first time they can be seen together again in the UK, restored to their former glory. Don’t miss out – after the exhibition they will be returned to their more recent mismatched configurations.
