Explore five decades of work from a pioneer of video and performance art in the largest exhibition ever dedicated to Joan Jonas in the UK.

Joan Jonas, The Juniper Tree, 1976 / 1994

Jonas’s early work from the 1960s and 1970s set the bar for future generations. On display is Organic Honey, which introduced her ‘electronic erotic seductress’ alter ego, exploring the shifting roles of women. Also on show is The Juniper Tree which reimagines the archetypal evil stepmother from a fairy tale.

More recent work deals with themes of climate change and extinction and includes the landmark installation, Reanimation, inspired by the Icelandic novel, Under the Glacier. Jonas continues to push the boundaries of art and will be performing as part of the BMW Tate Live Exhibition.
