This exhibition will bring together unseen material from the Cross Rail art programme, a selection of public art commissions from renowned British artists depicting the vibrant east London community.

In December 2018, spectacular public art commissions will be unveiled in and around the new central London Elizabeth Line stations. But before the line opens, viewers can experience the commissions - as well as the complex process behind turning artistic proposals into deliverable public art - in the gallery's project and archive spaces.

The commissions include Chantal Joffe's A Sunday Afternoon in Whitechapel, a series of hand painted cut-outs of people photographed around the station in East London, as well as a vast cloud-filled skyscape from Spencer Finch and artworks from Simon Periton. Other artists involved in the programme will be revealed inside the exhibition.

With support from Art Fund, Art Capital: Art for the Elizabeth Line will give visitors a first look into the artworks that are soon to grace the platforms of London's new line and represent the identity of the city.
