The result of foremost Brazilian artist Cinthia Marcelle’s experiments with order and chaos are revealed in this exhibition at Modern Art Oxford.

Cinthia Marcelle is one of Brazil’s most significant contemporary artists, using action and gesture in her practice to reflect on labour, materiality and the environment.

This, her first solo exhibition in the UK, combines a new site-specific installation commissioned by Modern Art Oxford with the premiere of Marcelle’s video work, Truth or Dare; created following a residency in South Africa, the piece animates a found concrete triangle to be both compass point and symbol for subverted sexual identity and gender roles.

For Marcelle’s installation, The Family in Disorder, two spaces in the gallery – each filled with an identical quantity of stone, brick, chalk and soil – are disrupted, destroyed and rebuilt by Marcelle and local artists, the result only revealed at the exhibition’s opening.
