Discover the playful and startling sculptures of an internationally renowned British artist.

Throughout her work, Phyllida Barlow uses household and DIY materials, focusing on the physical experience of transforming them into abstract structures. Her large-scale sculptures demonstrate a fascination with subverting the everyday and familiar.

This exhibition includes untitled: upturnedhouse, 2 2012, an excellent example of her hands-on, vigorously physical approach to sculpture. The ‘house’ of the title is turned into a multi-coloured, irregular and precarious construction. Even the materials are turned on their head; what appears to be concrete is actually wood coated in cement.

Barlow is representing Great Britain at the 2017 Venice Biennale, with her installation, folly, in the British Pavilion. Take a look at our UK in Venice page for more information.
