The UK’s first exhibition devoted to the Bruegel dynasty.

Bringing together 35 works produced by four different generations of the family, this exhibition investigates the development of Breugelian iconography over 150 years.

Paintings by Pieter Bruegel the Elder, his sons Pieter Bruegel the Younger and Jan Bruegel the Elder all feature, as well as those by their direct descendants and artists who married into the family.

While the display has a particularly keen focus on the achievements of Pieter Bruegel the Younger – bringing him out from the shadow of his father – it also explores the accomplishments of other figures from across the family.

Their work demonstrates sympathy with their artistic heritage, but also their desire to assert their own independence and individuality.
