The story of one family's incredible journey across Japan in the 1900s.

In 1903 Majorie Bell left her home on a sheep station in Shelford, Australia to travel across Japan with her mother Hester and cousin Leslie. They documented their two-month trip by taking photographs and writing about their experiences in a diary.

The records of their visit are displayed here, alongside items from the gallery’s own collection of Japanese objects, prints and ceramics.
