The world’s largest open submission exhibition, comprising painting, printmaking, photography, sculpture, architecture and film.

One of the founding principles of the Royal Academy of Arts was to 'mount an annual exhibition open to all artists of distinguished merit'. Since 1769 the Summer Exhibition has been held every year without interruption: its earliest contributors included Reynolds, Constable and Turner.

This year the exhibition is co-ordinated by Richard Wilson RA, who focuses his attention on artistic duos. Among those under the spotlight are Heather & Ivan Morison, Jake & Dinos Chapman, Jane & Louise Wilson, Ilya & Emilia Kabakov, Langlands & Bell and Pierre et Gilles.
