Exploring practices of dress, fashion and styling in four major African cities.

Thanks in part to an Art Fund grant, the researchers behind this exhibition – which is the very first to explore contemporary fashion in Africa – were able to travel to cities at the four compass points of the continent to witness the fashion scene first hand.

Under the spotlight are Casablanca in Morocco, Lagos in Nigeria, Nairobi in Kenya and Johannesburg in South Africa, and the display encompasses contributions from designers, stylists, photographers and bloggers living and working in each of these distinctive regions.

Brand new commissions by Nairobi-based brother and sister street style duo, 2Many Siblings, bring together mainstream, vintage and Kenyan items, while examples of Zhor Raïs’ ‘caftan-couture’ and high-fashion outfits worn by afro-pop act Sauti Sol are also shown.
