The artist's haunting installations are inspired by the forest and the deep secrets that lay within it.

In Whitworth Park a group of slumped, misshapen bronzes hide beneath ancient trees. These large lumps were tethered and thrown into the enormous natural cavity known as the Bus de la Lum in the woodland of Cansiglio, Italy, before being retrieved.

The mysteries of the forest provide the inspiration for artist Nico Vascellari, who has taken over the Landscape Gallery at the Whitworth in addition to his external installation. Using experiments in light and shadow, as well as a soundtrack by Turkish-born musician Ghédalia Tazartès, he seeks to immerse visitors in forest folklore, drawing on both traditional mythology and natural wonder.
