The Artist Rooms collection of Mapplethorpe photographs is one of the best in the world.
Robert Mapplethorpe's works are by turns beautiful, aspirational and salacious. Radical in both its technique and its subjects, his art ranged from classical still lifes to visual exposés of sexual counterculture.
This exhibition showcases a series of iconic self-portraits, completely unique to the ARTIST ROOMS collection and many of which have never been shown outside of London. Also featured are a number of portraits of Mapplethorpe’s contemporaries during the 1970s and 80s, including Andy Warhol, Truman Capote and Patti Smith.
