Fatoş Üstek curates 50 exhibitions in 50 weeks at the ICA studio.
A revival of Mark Francis and Jay Jopling's fig-1 project from 2000, fig-2 debuts a new exhibition by a different artist each week. In order to retain the spontaneity that characterised the original programme, the upcoming artist is only announced the Wednesday beforehand on the fig-2 website. Their show then opens at an evening reception the following Monday.
As with its original incarnation – which featured the likes of Jeremy Deller, Will Self, Philip Treacy and Patti Smith – the dynamic programme includes artists working across the fields of painting, sculpture, photography, architecture, design, fashion, film, literature and performance.
The project is hosted in ICA Studio, which is able to facilitate everything from large-scale exhibitions to intimate performance pieces thanks to moveable walls, lighting and bookcases.
The Art Fund is supporting the curator of fig-2, Fatos Üstek, who has previously worked on an array of prestigious international projects – most recently the 10th Gwangju Biennale in South Korea.
fig-2 want to commemorate this ambitious project to stage 50 exhibitions in 50 weeks with a beautifully-designed publication. Help them by donating to their Art Happens campaign and you can choose from a selection of exciting rewards – including limited-edition prints by Hiraki Sawa, afternoon tea with Bruce McLean in his studio and exclusive access to a VIP drinks reception with the fig-2 artists.
Art Fund and fig-2's curatorial practice workshop
The Art Fund is delighted to offer 15 places to a curatorial practice workshop, Towards an Epoch of New Institutionalism – The Future of Art's Visibility, at the ICA on Friday 27 November. The workshop is the third and final part of an ongoing series that has explored the relationship between works of art in an exhibition, the exhibition and the audience. Find out more and book your place.
We'll be updating this page each week with the latest fig-2 exhibition. Visit fig-2's Vimeo channel to hear the Art Fund curator talks.
