Artefacts from the archaeological site of Ostia are shown alongside works by two modern Italian artists.

Among the ancient antiquities are statues portraying Gods and Emperors - including one of Hercules from the third century AD - and mosaics and wall paintings from Isola Sacra, Ostia's cemetery.

These are joined by a series of specially commissioned paintings by Ettore De Conciliis and further paintings and sculpture by Umberto Mastroianni. While De Concillis' work captures the play of light across the Ostia ruins and along the river Tiber, Mastroianni's monumental pieces commemorate the Resistance, in which he fought.
