British Library looks at how 10 of the most iconic children’s books have been illustrated and re-illustrated throughout the 20th century

Original designs by artists such as Quentin Blake, Michael Foreman, Peggy Fortnum and Lauren Child explore how classic children's books are remembered not only through printed text, but the way the story is interpreted by the illustrator.

Curated by Dr Matthew Eve, the exhibition focuses on 10 classics – Just So Stories, The Iron Man, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, The Wind in the Willows, Paddington Bear, Peter Pan and Wendy, The Hobbit, The Borrowers, The Secret Garden and The Railway Children – providing at least four illustrations from each title.

The way in which different artists have illustrated the same story is also telling of how style and technique has changed over the last 60 years.

Specially filmed interviews with four illustrators and Paddington Bear author Michael Bond look at the relationship between story and illustration, author and artist.
