This exhibition has now closed, find out what else is going on at V&A (Victoria and Albert Museum)

V&A showcases some of the best illustration that has been published over the past year.

The display includes the top prize winners from the museum's annual competition, which recognises the best original artwork from an illustrated book, book cover, editorial illustration and that by a student illustrator.

The overall winner and recipient of the Editorial Award, George Butler, presents Syria: the point of no return, which was produced for publication in the Guardian G2.

Believed to be the first drawings out of Syria, Butler completed these in situ. He says that they 'are not designed to compete with news teams or photographers but [to] offer an insight into how people react at a wholly vulnerable time'.

Butler began his career as a reportage illustrator in Afghanistan, drawing his uncle’s regiment in their barracks. After completing a degree in illustration at Kingston University, he continues to work on projects around the world.

The V&A Illustration Awards are supported by the Enid Linder Foundation.
