Quentin Blake: Drawn by Hand is temporarily closed until further notice. Please check the venue's website for the latest details.
Quentin Blake, illustrator of such dishevelled characters as Roald Dahl’s BFG, presents a new collection of drawings revealing his scribbled genius.
One of the most inventive children’s illustrators of all time, Quentin Blake is a much-loved artist whose scruffy style has captivated the nation's imagination. His visual genius has brought us Matlida, Willy Wonka and of course the BFG. Of his scratchy drawings he says they invented him, not the other way around. In six decades he has produced drawings for 300 books from the cover of Kingsley Amis' Lucky Jim to Michael Rosen's Sad Book. This exhibition features many of the sketches he has made in the last 10 years together with book illustrations, etchings and lithographs. There is also a special display of the tools of his trade, from watercolours to some quite unusual quills.
