The Scottish National Gallery of Modern Art celebrates the role of the body in art by pairing its works with highlights from the D Daskalopoulos collection

The body as a topic threads through the D Daskalopoulos Collection in various ways, be it as a crucible and executor of art, a social entity, or a theatre of ideological struggle. These are themes that resonate with the gallery’s own collections, which include substantial holdings of work by Joseph Beuys (including the work that gives this exhibition its name) and pieces by Bellmer, Balthus, Ottos Dix, Magritte and Picasso.

Don't miss

Pairings have been determined in order to 'draw out commonalities and differences between both collections'. for example, 'visceral' sculpture by Louise Bourgeois can be seen with the work of Marcel Duchamp, and the gallery promises a juxtaposition of the contemplative and performative as works by Rachel Whiteread and Bruce Nauman appear side by side.
