This exhibition has now closed, find out what else is going on at Tate Liverpool

A set of anatomical drawings by William Orpen, acquired by Tate with Art Fund assistance, lies at the heart of a show which 'traces the conversation between figuration and abstraction' in drawings from the 20th century.

The Orpen studies, which illustrate the figurative end of the spectrum, will be shown next to the 'closed-eye' drawings of Abstract Expressionist Willem de Kooning. Another grouping of artists, on the theme of 'imaginary worldscapes', includes Paul Cézanne, Paul Klee, Richard Hamilton, Lee Bontecou and Julie Mehretu.
