Photographs of a fictional village are the theme of renowned Israeli photographer Adi Nes's first UK show.

Tel Aviv-based Adi Nes is one of Israel's leading photographers. His work has been exhibited across Europe and North America but never, until now, in the UK.

The Village brings together Nes's series of photographs depicting a fictional village. The staged pastoral images show a community living in anxiety – like Israel itself, the village is 'a small place created in the wake of tragedy' according to the artist.

Visual references to classical mythology elevate the villagers' stories to an epic tale exploring issues of gender, militancy, art and contemporary Israeli identity.
