You can take the artists out of St Ives, but can you take St Ives out of the artists? This show puts the St Ives School in the wider context of the international modernist scene.

Putting works together in unexpected ways and offering ‘an alternative perspective’ on one of the most celebrated British schools, the exhibition aims to ‘reposition many of the artists and works associated with St Ives in a contemporary context in which they find new resonances and relevance.’

The St Ives axis of the show includes work by Patrick Heron, Trevor Bell, Alan Davie, Sandra Blow, William Scott, Barbara Hepworth and Wilhelmina Barns-Graham; artists on show from the rest of the world include Henri Matisse, Max Ernst, Henry Moore, Mary Martin, Jackson Pollock, Hélio Oiticica and Louise Bourgeois. The entire show is drawn from Tate's own 20th-century collection.
