This exhibition offers a rare chance to explore the collections of 18th-century Russian Empress Catherine the Great, who amassed literally thousands of paintings, drawings, gems, medals, sculptures and items of jewellery.

With portraits, costume, splendid snuffboxes, classical cameos and outstanding works in porcelain, glass, metal and polished stone, the works on show demonstrate both the personal and political aspirations of this extraordinary figure from history.

Co-curated by the State Hermitage Museum in St Petersburg and National Museums Scotland, the exhibition will appear only in the Scottish Capital.
