This exhibition offers a route into the Gallery's rich collection of drawings through a greater understanding of the dress and costume on display.

Signifiers of wealth, profession and intent that would have been readily understood by punters in the Renaissance " the choice of fabric, costume, jewellery, accessories etc " are less well understood today, and a little de-mystification goes a long way.The 34 drawings in this show are complemented by the depictions of costume in the Gallery's permanent collection, with intriguing examples by Frans Hals, John Riley and Ludovico Carracci.
