The inaugural exhibition brings together work by the visionary British painter JMW Turner and six contemporary artists.

Turner was a frequent visitor to Margate and apparently loved the light, although the painting that sits at the centre of this exhibition features something he never actually witnessed. Turner's extraordinary painting The Eruption of the Souffrier Mountains, in the Island of St Vincent, at Midnight, on the 30th of April, 1812, from a Sketch Taken at the Time by Hugh P. Keane, Esqre, 1815, portrays the drama of a volcanic eruption. The inaugural exhibition brings together work by the visionary British painter JMW Turner and six contemporary artists. There are also sculptures by Conrad Shawcross and Russell Crotty and pieces by Teresita Fernández which specifically tie-in with Turner's painting on show. The wonderful installation Arcadia by Ellen Harvey was newly-commissioned for the space. The piece recreates to scale the gallery JMW Turner built to house his work which is filled with illuminated depictions of Margate represented in minute detail.
