A major exhibition of contemporary paintings, selected through open competition and one of the most illustrious events in the British art world.

The John Moores Painting Prize, launched in 1957, is the UK's most prestigious painting prize. The £25,000 first prize and four other awards of £2,500 are certainly helpful to any artist, but more important still is the boost to reputation that winning the John Moores brings. The competition continues to be recognised amongst painters as the one to watch.
