The workshop will be themed around the museum’s Frank Brangwyn installation, and his mural panels at Skinners’ Hall in London. In this animation workshop we will be using cut-out paper prints of the Skinner’s Hall murals as the basis for animations. Participants will learn how to create a stop motion animation and retell the mural stories based on their own thoughts and desires about what future jobs they might do. Using their imaginations to think of fun equipment, clothes or locations that a new job might entail that can be created and added into their animation. There will be a final edit by Remix the Museum ready for sharing with everyone.

The murals are full of characters and stories, perfect to be remixed and retold by young participants using animation. No previous experience will be necessary. Computer tablets are supplied to work on and there will be lots of good old low-fi cutting and sticking creating too so no need to bring along any technology of your own to use.

Remix the Museum is a youth programme in which young people create animations inspired by museum collections. It’s been developed since 2014 and is a fun, exciting and interactive workshop which uses both every day and more animation-specific technology to explore new ways of learning about the past and present. In its essence, it aims to combine both old and new.
