Thomas was visiting The Wilson Museum and Art Gallery in Cheltenham when he spotted a beautiful carved horn hair comb decorated with moonstones and enamel in the Art Nouveau style. He immediately thought it was by a Parisian master, such as René Lalique or Lucien Gaillard. He was therefore shocked to read the name on the label, ‘Frederick Partridge’. His interest was piqued – who was Frederick Partridge and how did this boy from Barnstaple come to create such a piece?

Come and find out more about Frederick Partridge and his life outside of Barnstaple on Thursday 18th August.

6pm - 7pm

You will also have the chance to explore our new exhibition 'The Partridge Family of Barnstaple, Ethel Mairet, Fred Partridge and the Arts and Craft Movement' with late opening
