Broaden your fabric knowledge to make more informed choices and create more desirable clothes.

The class will start with the basic theory of fibre and fabric construction, followed by a practical session on how to sew with different qualities of fabric, from classic knit and woven constructions to leather and modern technical fabrics.

Frances Tobin is a fashion textile graduate of Brighton and the Royal College of Art. After 25 years of designing for brands and retailers in the UK, Italy and USA, she set up The Maker’s Atelier in 2014, a sewing brand that publishes her sewing patterns and a quarterly magazine.

Fabric samples will be supplied. Each attendee will need to bring their own sewing machine, fabric shears, pins and good quality sewing thread (Guttermann or similar). Tickets include materials swatch, a hot drink and biscuits.
