Museums and galleries across the UK are subject to temporary closures. Those that remain open have safety measures in place, please remember to check venue guidelines before visiting.

Join artist and collector Jane Wildgoose for an online discussion about the memorial jewellery in The Portland Collection.

Jane has developed a private collection dedicated to memory, mourning and remembrance, and works with historic collections to tell the stories of remains of many kinds.

Her clients have included Yale University, Sir John Soane’s Museum, Waddesdon Manor and Kensington Palace. She is a Visiting Senior Research Fellow in the Centre for Life-Writing Research at Kings College London, a NESTA Fellow, and was co-presenter of On One Lost Hair, a programme for BBC Radio 4 investigating a wisp of hair from the head of Lord Nelson purchased on eBay. Her exhibition Life is Very Sweet showed at The Harley Gallery in 2010.

In this talk Jane will discuss key memorial objects in The Portland Collection. Pieces include the pearl earring worn by Charles I at his execution and the heart-shaped earring with a hair tassel worn by Elizabeth Basset in her portrait by Daniel Mytens.

The online lecture will take place on Zoom. After you book your place we will email you with a link to attend the event.

If you would like to support The Harley Foundation's work, you can make a donation.

All of our online talks are recorded and will be available to watch on demand after the event.

Please feel free to book a place if you would like to receive a link to the recording - even if you cannot join us for the live session.
