Fiona Sampson joins students from Baylor University, Texas, to discuss bringing Elizabeth Barrett Browning to life for a modern audience.
How do you bring Elizabeth Barrett Browning (1806-1861) to life for a modern audience? Professor Fiona Sampson joins students from Baylor University, Texas, to discuss their shared ambitions in attempting to do just that.
Professor Sampson has just published her new book Two-Way Mirror: The Life of Elizabeth Barrett Browning (Profile, Feb 2021; W.W. Norton, Aug 2021), and students at Baylor University have recently curated the online exhibition ‘The Brownings in Our World’. The speakers will discuss just what delighted and amazed them as they got to know Elizabeth Barrett Browning and her work, and her relevance to the 21st century.
The conversation will also explore the way that writing a book compares with curating an exhibition, the process of deciding what to cut and what to keep, and the experience of working with original sources.
This event is in partnership with Baylor University.
