Art & Ideas: Ceramics Workshop with Ali Hewson is temporarily closed until further notice. Please check the venue's website for the latest details.
Join ceramicist Ali Hewson for a one-day workshop looking at the Kettle’s Yard ceramics collection and making your own decorated plate or platter.
Your plate or platter will be fired by Ali and ready to collect from Kettle’s Yard two weeks after the workshop.
Taking influence from the domestic ceramics at Kettle’s Yard, including work by Bernard Leach, Lucie Rie and Jim Ede’s own eclectic collection of pottery and crockery, the day will start with a private tour of the House gathering ideas and sketches to use in surface designs for a plate or platter.
You will be guided through the process of press-moulding a plate or platter and then decorating using slip and natural oxides. There will also be the opportunity to decorate a bisque fired plate or platter with a second design in order to deepen your understanding of what the clay is like at different stages of the making process and to enable the use of different underglaze materials such as underglaze pencil.
Booking required, includes private tour, refreshments and 10% discount in the cafe, lunch not included.
