One of Britain’s foremost portrait painters, Slade School of Art trained British portrait painter Brendan Kelly has been awarded several prestigious prizes, including a BP Portrait Award and the Royal Society of Portrait Painters’ Changing Faces Prize. He has two portraits in the National Portrait Gallery: one of the former Speaker of the House of Commons, Baroness Boothroyd, and the other of retired British Army officer General Mike Jackson. His portrait of the current Speaker, John Bercow, hangs in the Palace of Westminster. Kelly also worked as a war artist in Afghanistan in 2006.
During this studio visit, an illustrated talk by the artist offers insight into his working methods and some of his commissions.
Unfortunately this visit is unsuitable for anyone with mobility problems as there is no lift in the building.
