Incense is traditionally used in a wide range of Chinese cultural activities from religious ceremonies, worshiping ancestors, traditional medicine and in daily life. Incense culture reached its height during the Song Dynasty with nobles enjoying it as a popular pastime and the development of incense ceremonies.

Discover a brief history of incense in China, how they were used historically and in modern times, and take a look at the incense burners in the Museum’s collection. Attendees also have a chance to witness how an incense ceremony is conducted, and sample different incenses.

Please note: the event is being held at Bath Royal Literary & Scientific Institution (BRLSI), 16 – 18 Queen Square, Bath BA1 2HN.
