The Towner Gallery is regarded as one of the most significant public art collections in South East England, holding over 5,000 works of art. Housed in a purpose-built modern gallery in the centre of Eastbourne, the gallery holds particularly impressive collections of British modern and contemporary art, including works by Edward Bawden, Henry Moore, Paul Nash, Victor Pasmore, Alfred Wallis, Duncan Grant, Julian Opie, Tacita Dean and Grayson Perry. The gallery also boasts one of the most significant collections of works by Eric Ravilious, who studied and taught in Eastbourne.
The visit will begin with tea and coffee at 10.30 followed by a private tour of Towner’s Art Store to view some of the works not currently on display. After the Art Store tour, the guide will lead a guided tour of the gallery and a special exhibition - ‘Ten’, drawn from the permanent collection, celebrating 10 years in the Rick Mather designed gallery. The visit will end with a light sandwich lunch from the gallery’s café.
