Visit to English Heritage’s Art & Social History Store, Helmsley followed by a guided tour of the Helmsley Walled Garden.
The newly opened English Heritage Art & Social History Store holds an extensive collection and archives from English Heritage guardianship sites throughout the country. Amongst the collection are items from Brodsworth Hall, Mount Grace Priory and the Cold War Bunker in York. In addition there are carpets, textiles, religious and altar pieces, stained glass and 18th century gilt furniture. We will be guided through the collection by curator Ellie Matthews.
After a light lunch at the Black Swan Hotel, at 2.15pm the guided tour continues at the Helmsley Walled Garden.
Built in 1758 as a produce garden for Duncombe Park, the garden fell into disuse after 1982 until taken on by local lady Alison Ticehurst in 1994 to restore as a beautiful place for all to enjoy.
After the tour you may wish to linger and take refreshment at the Vine House Cafe.
