This walking tour will concentrate on North Street and Skeldergate. The area is a backwater now and little visited, but this has not always been the case. With access to the river both streets showed much activity and some grand houses, including architect John Carr’s own, were built there. Though some good buildings survive, much was demolished after the war. However, some famous names are associated with the area and the church of All Saints, North Street is one of the finest in the city.
