A courtyard buiding, with some of the best preserved 17th century livery hall interiors, erected on the site of the Black Friars Priory and replacing the original hall which burnt down in 1666. The Society of Apothecaries is famous for allowing Elizabeth Garrett Anderson to become the first woman doctor. Steeped in history and tradition, it remains professionally based with most of its members belonging to the medical profession
